Increasing Data Literacy with the DEAL Lab

Building Confidence with Data
IIHR helps organizations strengthen their ability to collect, understand, and use data with confidence. Our practical, equity-centered trainings are tailored to participants’ roles, experience, and organizational needs.
Through interactive workshops and hands-on support, participants learn to:
- Ask meaningful and measurable questions
- Interpret tables, charts, and data trends
- Recognize bias and apply a data-equity lens
- Communicate findings clearly to communities, partners, and funders
- Turn evidence into informed decisions and action
Our goal is to make data accessible, useful, and relevant—regardless of a participant’s previous experience.
The Data Exploration and Learning Lab
The Data Exploration and Learning Lab—or The DEAL Lab—helps community-based organizations, health-related businesses, and government agencies build the skills and confidence to use data effectively.
Through accessible, practical training led by university faculty experts, The DEAL Lab combines foundational knowledge with applied learning using real-world public health data. Participants strengthen their ability to assess data quality, recognize bias and limitations, communicate findings to diverse audiences, and use evidence to guide decisions and community health action.
