Develop Strategies & Essential Tools for Capacity Building
Build skills, systems, and partnerships
IIHR supports organizational capacity through training, data workshops, research tools, and resource development. We also connect partners and share practices that help sustain their work.

Data Academy with Marin County HHS
IIHR developed and delivered a two-day, four-module Data Academy for Marin County Health and Human Services public health staff. The training combined foundational concepts with hands-on work using public health data. Participants practiced skills they could apply to everyday decisions and communication:
- Assess data sources and consider their strengths and limitations.
- Interpret patterns and trends in public health data through applied exercises.
- Communicate findings clearly for different audiences and practical use.
Feedback from the initial training highlighted interest in more opportunities to practice these skills, helping inform IIHR’s continued data literacy work.
Building Data and Outreach Capacity
IIHR is working with an organization that supports students’ academic, social, and emotional growth through mentorship and classroom programs. The work addresses immediate needs for data and outreach while developing tools and training that strengthen the organization’s long-term capacity.
Immediate Needs
- Prepare usable data: A clean, organized dataset ready for analysis.
- Make sense of results: Summary tables and practical interpretation of feedback over time.
- Share findings: A concise, accessible summary with visuals for different audiences.
- Strengthen participation: Written outreach plans to improve response and engagement.
Capacity Building
- Data management skills: Training materials and guides for maintaining reliable data.
- Analysis skills: Training materials and examples for interpreting results.
- Outreach skills: Reusable guidance and examples for future recruitment.
