Research Planning and Evaluation
Plan research and evaluation with community partners
IIHR partners with community-based organizations to identify program goals and measurable objectives, review the existing evidence, and select appropriate research methods. We shape plans around the needs of each population, realistic schedules, and available budgets.

Research and Evaluation in Practice
IIHR worked with Marin Healthy Youth Partnerships to evaluate Raising the Bar, a Marin County campaign promoting substance-free, youth-centered events and healthy parental modeling. The evaluation brought together community perspectives and survey data to guide the campaign’s next steps.
Learn from the community
The team interviewed 13 school district superintendents, gathered input from staff and partner organizations, held nine parent focus groups, and observed campaign materials at community sites.
Measure awareness and experience
Findings from the first phase informed a countywide parent survey. IIHR analyzed 821 completed surveys on campaign awareness, views about substance use, and reported behavior at youth events.
Turn evidence into action
IIHR used the findings and a review of relevant evidence to recommend clearer, more tailored messaging, stronger community engagement, and ongoing data collection to refine the campaign.
